Rituals for performance

Sport, dance and music performances all require excellence in order to look effortless and be brilliant. Here is a story about a dancer who turned down Harvard to come to The Royal Ballet School. She discusses her self set warm up rituals that prepare her body and mind for performances. She uses visualisation, rehearses in her mind, thinks about the ‘ideal’ performance and how that would feel and listens to the music that she will perform to with her eyes closed. She loves the fact that her success is down to how much effort she puts in and that the proportion of this success is down to her. I hope you enjoy this story and the images as much as I have. My grandmother, who died at the great ago of 103 years, taught me to love and appreciate the beautiful art form of dance and in particular classical ballet. I still adore attending ballets and deeply respect the discipline that these dancers need in order to look graceful whilst being so athletic and strong in body and mind.
