Orchestral musicians are elite athletes!

Australia is leading the way in areas of injury prevention and treatment for musicians. Pilates, yoga and Alexander technique are being offered to Sydney Symphony Orchestra members to assist in decreasing the incidence of injury and increasing the recovery time if they have an injury. I used to work with Jane, the physiotherapist who is running the classes at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust – what a small world we live in! I hope this article challenges you, your colleagues and your management into focusing on preventing injuries and enabling ‘pain free’ bodies to make beautiful music.
